So I picked up the AirPods 4 about six weeks ago because my old Galaxy Buds finally died mid-commute and I was tired of dealing with connection drops. Figured I'd try Apple's thing since I already have an iPhone.
The good stuff first. Sound quality is genuinely impressive for open-ear buds. I mostly listen to podcasts and hip-hop, and voices sound clear while bass has actual presence. The adaptive audio feature is cool — it adjusts when you walk into a noisy coffee shop vs sitting at your desk. Didn't think I'd notice it but I do.
Battery life has been solid. Apple says 30 hours with the case and I'm getting around 28, which is close enough. I charge maybe twice a week with moderate use (2-3 hours a day).
Now the cons.
- Fit is hit or miss. They stay in my ears fine walking around, but I tried running with them once and the left one popped out at mile two. No wings or tips to keep them locked in. If you're a runner, look elsewhere.
- No noise cancellation. I know that's the Pro model, but at $129 I expected at least some passive isolation. On the subway they're basically useless — I can hear everything.
The case is nice and small, charges via USB-C, and the speaker on it for Find My is handy. I've already used it twice to locate the case in my couch cushions.
Overall I'd give these a solid recommendation if you want everyday earbuds for calls and casual listening. But if you need them for working out or loud environments, spend the extra $70 on the Pros. I learned that the hard way.
