HexClad Pan — Worth the Premium? After 2 Months I Have Thoughts

I spent $180 on a single 10-inch pan. Let me explain why and whether I regret it.

I've been cooking more at home this year and my $30 T-fal nonstick was peeling after 8 months. Kept seeing HexClad everywhere — Gordon Ramsay endorsement, all over YouTube. The hex pattern is supposed to give you the best of both worlds: stainless steel searing with nonstick convenience.

First impression: it's heavy. Noticeably heavier than my old pan. About 2.5 lbs which doesn't sound like much but you feel it when you're tossing vegetables. My wrist was sore the first week.

The cooking performance is genuinely great. Eggs slide right off with barely any oil. I seared a steak on it and got an actual restaurant-quality crust, which I never could on nonstick. It goes from stovetop to oven (up to 500°F apparently, I've done 425°F with no issues). The hex pattern is weird looking but it works — food releases clean and the metal utensils don't scratch it.

Cleanup has been easy. Most stuff wipes off with a paper towel. For stuck-on bits, a little soap and the rough side of a sponge does it. It IS dishwasher safe but I hand wash it because at $180 I'm treating this thing like fine china.

  • The price is hard to justify. $180 for one pan. You can get a full Tramontina stainless set for that. I basically bought it on a payment plan through Affirm which felt ridiculous for cookware.
  • It stains. After the first month, there's a slight golden discoloration that won't come off no matter how hard I scrub. It doesn't affect performance but it bugs me on a pan this expensive.
  • The handle gets warm on high heat. Not burning hot, but warm enough that I grab a towel now out of habit.

Two months in, I use it almost every day and I do love cooking with it. Would I buy it again? Honestly, probably — but I'd wait for a sale. They do 20-30% off a few times a year. Don't pay full price.
